This is me

I thought I would tell you in English who I am:-)

My name is Hanne Halén, i´m 37 years old and lives in Oslo with my boyfriend Martin. I have been a professional handball player half of my life. I’ve played handball in Bækkelaget (Oslo), Nordstrand (Oslo), Ferrobus Mislata Spain, Ikast in Denmark and the Norwegian national team. I have played Champions League, I am Norwegian champion, Spanish champion, played the European Cup and have World Championship silver medal. Some of my greatest experiences in life have been through handball. My best friends and boyfriend, I have thanks to it. And I miss the adrenaline and the talks in the locker room every day.

But life as an athlete has also a cost. Sometimes we have lost the gold in the last second. The coach has been fired. The club has gone bankrupt. Discord between players has destroyed the team, and I’ve been seriously injured more times than I can count. I have been declared sports invalid. To much of my time in my career, has i focused on rehabilitation. 13 times I had surgery in the shoulder, ankle, knees and elbow. Now I stand above the most important one of them all. In a few weeks I get a knee replacement, although I´m really too young. I’ll share with you the process before and after surgery.

This blog will be about my life with and without handball, the process before and after knee replacement, food and my life with my boyfriend, family and friends.

How handball has always been and will be a part of me. All so how great it is to stand on top of the podium, and all so how unkind it is when your career is over and nocturnal sleep disappears because it is suddenly quiet and you have so much pain in your knees. I have sacrificed a lot for handball. Would I do it again? Yes. Without a doubt, but I would think carefully about it and stop before it went too far. I have loved and still love handball. But there is also a «backside of the medal.»

I will post more in english in the future, and my english will all so get better as we go:-)

I will share my thoughts, preparations, the process of operation, training and job to return to a pain-free life.

Jeg heter Hanne Halén, er 39 år og bor i Oslo med min samboer Martin. Jeg har vært profesjonell håndballspiller halve livet. Jeg har spilt håndball i Bækkelaget, Nordstrand, Ferrobus Mislata i Spania, Ikast i Danmark og på landslaget. Jeg har vunnet, spilt Champions League,Norges Mester, Spansk Mester og spilt Europa cup. Noen av mine aller største opplevelser i livet har jeg fått gjennom håndballen. Mine beste venner og kjæresten har jeg fått takket være den. Og jeg savner adrenalinet på banen og livet i garderoben hver eneste dag. Men livet som idrettsutøver har også kostet. Noen ganger har vi tapt gullet i siste sekund. Treneren har blitt sparket. Klubben har gått konkurs. Splid mellom spillere har ødelagt lagmiljøet. Og jeg har blitt alvorlig skadet flere ganger enn jeg kan telle. Jeg har blitt erklært idrettsinvalid. Store deler av karrieren har handlet om gjenopptrening. 13 ganger har jeg blitt operert i skulder, ankel, knær og albue. Nå står jeg fremfor den viktigste av dem alle. Om et par uker får jeg satt inn kneprotese, selv om jeg egentlig er alt for ung. Jeg skal dele med dere prosessen før og etter operasjonen. Denne bloggen skal handle om mitt liv med og uten håndballen, prosessen før og etter kneprotesen og min hverdag med min samboer, familie og venner. Om hvordan håndballen alltid har vært og vil være en del av meg. Om hvor fett det er å stå på toppen av pallen. Og tilsvarende hvor kjipt det er når karrieren er over og nattesøvnen forsvinner fordi det plutselig er stille og knærne verker. Jeg har ofret mye for håndballen. Ville jeg gjort det igjen? Ja. Uten tvil, men ville tenkt meg nøye om og sluttet før det gikk for langt. Jeg har elsket og elsker fremdeles håndballen. Men det er også en "bakside av medaljen."
